Footnotes

  • The facial type, stocky proportions and red lacquered decoration at the back of the base are closely related to sculpture attributed to the Khasa Malla region on the border region of Western Nepal and Western Tibet. However the extent of inlaid semi-precious stones is more closely aligned with classic Newari style of the period. See Ian Alsops's article in Tibetan Art: Towards a Definition of Style, Weatherhill, 1997.
