The first facsimile of the 1507 Waldseemueller map of the world, and the 1516 Carta Marina, published just 2 years after their discovery by Professor Fischer in Castle Wolfegg in Germany. These two maps, the greatest printed maps extant, are only known in these copies, and were in the possession of Johann Schoener, the globe maker. He used Waldseemueller information for his globes and on the copy of the Carta Marina, he added a ruled grid to enable him to transfer the geographical information to a globe gore. The original maps are now in the Library of Congress.
