Qing dynasty Of elegant pear-shaped form, applied with a simple loop handle opposite a swan-neck spout, the neatly fitted domed cover mounted in metal at the rim and knop, incised with the characters si ting at the base and impressed with a two character seal at the bottom of the handle, the stoneware of a rich reddish-brown. 7.4cm high. (2).
The current teapot and cover is discussed, by Paul Moss, The Literati Mode, Sydney L. Moss Ltd., London, 1986, p.235, where it is compared to a similar teapot and cover, illustrated ibid, pl. 108. The illustrated example lacks the metal mounts, but is incised with the same two-character signature 'si ting'. Reference is made to the ongoing discussion as to whether this signature refers to the scholar Wu Xiu, or is the art name of Hui Mengchen.
