Late Ming dynasty Of circular form supported on a short tapered foot, naturalistically moulded as a lotus flower with petals radiating out from the centre of the box and cover, covered all over with a pale lavender-blue glaze mottled to a beige-white, the burnt footring revealing the brownish-red body. 6.2cm diam. In form, glaze and style of moulding, this rare box and cover is closely related to the Yijun lotus-shaped dish preserved in the Palace Museum of Beijing, illustrated in Yixing Zisha Wares in the Palace Museum, Beijing, 2009, pl. 6; and another rare example in this collection, offered as lot 238.
