A George Adams 2 1/4-inch brass reflecting telescope on stand, English, 1760,
signed on the eyepiece tube Made by G. Adams in Fleet Street, London Inst. Maker to the Prince of Wales, the tube covered in green stained rayskin or shagreen, focusing to the secondary mirror by long shank and screw, supported on a bracket with two wing nuts and universal joint, column and folding tripod base, length of tube 14 1/2in (37cm)

  • George Adams senior was appointed instrument maker to the Prince of Wales in 1760. In October 1760 King George II died and he was succeeded by his grandson, the Prince of Wales, then aged 22, as King George III.
