The Olympic and World War One Medals and archive to William Fergus, a Gymnast from the London 1908 Olympics. Comprising: Participants' Medal 1908; Competitor's badge, numbered 1588; his World War One Medals, comprising: Military Medal, G.V.R. (M2-099698 Pte W.Fergus. M.T. A.S.C.), 1914-15 Star trio (M2-099698. Pte.W.Fergus, A.S.C.); The Scottish Amateur Gymnastics Association Prize Medals: Bronze for Rope Climbing 1906-7, Silver for Club Championship 1906-7, Silver for Rope Climbing 1907-8, Silver for Rope Climbing 1908-9, Gold for Pomelled Horse 1907-8, with another identical gold medal undated and without discipline; a Carnegie Gymnasium Club Winner of International and Scottish Gymnastic Shields 1908 Wm Fergus; another silver medal marked on reverse (Rope Climbing Record W.C.Fergus); another K.B.C. Prize Medal for 4 miles to W.C.Fergus 1910; a gold Hood Medal won by him in 1912; a Scottish Amateur Boxing Gymnastic Wrestling silver medal, engraved on reverse "Individual Gymnastic Champs Pomelled Horse 1st Prize won by W.C.Fergus 1912", (small quantity)

Footnotes

  • William Fergus began his gymnastic career, aged 10, joining the Garnegie Gymnastic Club in his native Dunfermline. He competed in the 1908 London Olympics, aged 22, having previously won three club championships. He served with the Army Service Corps in World War One and won the Military Medal. On his return he lived in Dunfermline and then moved to Dundee to set up a watchmaker's business, he retired in 1961, aged 74, and died in June 1975.

    The lot includes various research and photocopies of newspaper articles, box for WW2 medal, clothing coupon books etc.
