A Worcester armorial teabowl and saucer, circa 1758
Decorated with the arms of Marke, the shield in red and gold with a rampant lion and fleur de lys, set within an ornate cartouche of black-printed scrollwork, above a ribbon inscribed with the family motto 'Par sit fortuna labori', the reverse of the teabowl printed with a portrait of the King of Prussia, the interior printed with a blind-folded cherub, black line rims, the saucer 11.7cm diam (2)

  • This is from a tea and coffee service made for the Marke family of Cornwall. Their arms are part of a small number of Worcester services which combined painted armorial devices with transfer printed cartouches. A coffee cup and saucer from this service from The Zorensky collection was sold in these rooms 23 February 2005, lot 248.
