Footnotes

  • One plate is illustrated by John Sandon, Antique Porcelain (1997), p.148. An identical set of twelve plates, also dated 1911, is in the National Museum of American History, Washington. Alboin Birks joined Minton as an apprentice in 1876 and trained under Louis Solon. Many of the subjects executed by Birks on a series of cabinet plates were derived from Solon's designs. The raised-paste gilding on these plates is of exceptional quality.
