A Beilby enamelled wine glass, circa 1760-70
With a bell-shaped bowl enamelled in white with a border of grapes and vine leaves and tendrils, the rim edged in gold, on a double-series opaque twist stem with a pair of spiral threads encircled by a fifteen-ply spiral band, on a plain conical foot, 16.6cm high (tiny chips and annealing cracks to the foot)

  • Provenance: the Dwight Lanmon Collection. Previously in the collection of George Horace Lorimer of Philadelphia, the editor of The Saturday Evening Post. The gold rim is unusually well preserved on this wine glass.
