Of globular shape with a pointed finial, painted in light blue with a rare design of a bird perched on a branch, two further birds in flight above, another floral spray to the reverse, beneath a floral and diaper border, the cover probably married, with a different border and painted prunus, 17.5cm high, scratch cross mark, workman's mark of letter C in blue (some damage) (2)

  • No similar design in blue and white appears to have been recorded. The style of bird painting combined with exotic oriental flowers occurs in enamelled decoration on larger mugs and jugs, for example the large jug from the Sam Cole Collection sold in these rooms 10 December 2008, lot 124.
