A Bohemian cameo glass plaque by Otto Pietsch, dated 1907
The rectangular pane overlaid in bright blue and cut through to the clear glass with a maiden wearing only a long diaphanous skirt, stooping to fill a drinking bowl from a woodland spring, signed lever right 'O Pietsch 1907' and inscribed lower left with the source artist E.Liebermann, 24.5cm x 21.8cm (minor chips to extremities)

  • Otto Pietsch Sen. (1868-1938) was the son of master engraver Carl Pietsch. He is recorded as having received his training at the Glasfachschule in Steinschönau from 1881-87, together with his father and Franz Ullmann. From 1888 Otto worked as a master engraver and a year later he began to teach the art of glass-cutting and modelling at the technical school. He later worked for the Viennese glass firm of J.& L. Lobmeyr in Steinschönau. Ernst Liebermann (1869-1960) was a painter and illustrator in Berlin specialising especially in classical portraits of nymphs
