Footnotes

  • Karl Pfohl of Steinschonau in Bohemia was one of the finest exponents of the difficult technique of relief-engraving through thin layers of coloured overlay. He is best known for his horse subjects. For three beakers with horses attributed to Karl Pfohl and similar lenses on the reverse see 'Glass of Five Centuries', Glas Galerie Michael Kovacek, Vienna 1990, figs 164-166
