Auction Notices

  • It is believed that the date of this medallion is 15th century and of North Italian origin. A rectangular plaque depicting the Crucifixion of Christ, similarly decorated in this technique of reverse painting and gilding (known as verre fixé), was in the celebrated collection of Robert von Hirsch. It was sold at Sotheby's 20 June 1978, lot 254. The estimate on the present lot has been revised to £2,500-3,500.
