Lot Details
An impressive European façon de Venise punchbowl and cover, second half 17th century
Possibly Spanish, the plain globular bowl and domed cover both striped with white latticinio gauze cables, raised on a clear glass spreading base and folded foot rim, the finial with pincered ornament forming a crown, 34cm high, 20cm maximum width (some losses to finial) (2)

Footnotes

  • The unusual internal decoration featuring irregular white latticinio stripes is strongly reminiscent of early Spanish glass. The trailed finial in the shape of a crown is of a type well known in 18th century glass of Scandinavian origin although the precise form of the present lot differs from recorded Nostetangen examples

Saleroom notices

  • Please note that the presence of lead in this glass suggests a north European origin
