A magnificent Clichy chequer newel post, circa 1850
The circular globe set with a spaced millefiori paperweight arrangement of large individual canes in three concentric rows, the canes including a single pink rose cane, the chequer ground formed of short lengths of white latticinio cable resting on a bed of further horizontal cables, on a spreading base and raised on a brass socle, 11.5cm diam, 20cm high overall (surface chip and some abrasion, the plain glass shaft chipped within the brass socle)
