A rare Meissen Hausmaler octagonal sugar box and cover, circa 1725-30
Decorated in Augsburg in gilding, the sides and ends with very fine European landscape scenes within foliate scrollwork cartouches, flanked by motifs of strap- and foliate scrollwork, the rim with burnished gilt ground edged with foliate scrollwork, the cover decorated with similar alternating panels within a similar border, the finial embellished in gilding, 11cm across; 8cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue (small area of flaking to cover) (2)
