A Böttger stoneware octagonal teapot and cover, circa 1710-15
Modelled by Johann Jacob Irminger, of octagonal tapering form, the polished sides alternated with a moulded unpolished grotesques mask at the spout and an unpolished heraldic emblem under the handle, the spout shaped as an eagle's head, the handle formed of multiple interlinking flat-sided c-scrolls, the polished cover of similar shape and decoration, the abstracted leaf-finial unpolished, 10cm high, (restored flat chip to the opening, the handle restored) (2)

    The form is described in the 1711 inventory of the Meissen manufactory as '8Bassige Thee Krügel mit Adler Schnäutzgen [8-sided tea pot with eagle spout]. A similar polished teapot is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, inv. no. C.108&A-1940.
