A Sèvres cabinet cup and saucer dated 1827 and 1829
Decorated with allegorical scenes of Amor and Psyche, the cup with Psyche seated on a flower studded laurel festoon, Amor close by her, raising his bow, his quiver at his back, a burning oil lamp at their feet, flanking this scene two enclosed imitation cameo portraits of Amor and Psyche, all set against a pale puce ground with gilt and trompe l'oeil jewelled bands with the title 'Psyche', the inside of the flaring rim with the same jewelling imitating rubies and emeralds, the saucer with a comparable decoration of a single Amor seated on his quiver, holding a butterfly, emblem of Psyche, on his hands, surrounded by a stiff leaf wreath picked out in forget-me-nots, the jewelled scrollwork border on the saucer divided in six compartments enclosing trophies and allegorical objects and jewels, cup: 8.5cm high, the cup: printed blue mark, enclosing a fleur de lys and 'Sevres 27' below it, the saucer: printed crowned blue mark, surrounded by 'decoré à Sevres 29', cup and saucer both with 'm 2 gb' in gold, (saucer restored in two places at the rim) (2)
