Gobelet 'litron' et soucoupe, of the third size, painted by Charles-Nicholas Dodin with a milkmaid tending to her sheep, a small lamb standing next to its mother, the girl's hat filled with flowers at her side, the saucer with a hound waiting next to a puce bagpipe, all reserved on a blue ground, the rims with tooled gilt foliate scrollwork, cup 5.7cm high, interlaced LL monogram enclosing date letter z, painter's mark K, gilder's mark #, various collectors labels, (handle cleanly restuck, resulting haircrack through the wall and base of cup) (2)

  • Charles-Nicholas Dodin is perhaps the most famous and well-respected painter at the Sèvres factory with a long career span from 1754 until 1803. The gilding on this cup and saucer was executed by Michel-Barnabé Chauvaux (active 1752-88).
