A Du Paquier plate from the hunting service for Prince Trivulzio, circa 1740
Painted in Schwarzlot with a vignette depicting a wolf with a dead sheep in its jaws and clouds overhead, the rim with a band of trellis panels alternating with scrollwork and foliage heightened in gilding, the reverse with two flowering branches, 21.5cm diam. (minor rubbing)

  • Forty-one pieces of this service, said to have belonged to the Milanese princely service Trivulzio, first appeared on the market in 1951. Antonio Tolomeo de Galli Trivulzio, prince of Musocco, was invested by the Emperor Charles VI with the Order of the Golden Fleece in Vienna on 6 January 1732; this may have been the occasion on which he purchased or was given the service (see G. Zelleke, Gifts, Diplomacy and Foreign Trade, in M. Chilton (ed.), Fired by Passion (2009), vol. II, p. 1010.
