Footnotes

  • Pierre-Emile Jeannest (1813-57) was the son of a French bronzier and a student of Delaroche. He moved to London in the 1840s, joining Mintons in 1848 where he was employed as a figure modeller, producing designs for Majolica, terracotta, parian and porcelain. Examples of the present figures were exhibited in the London 1862 Exhibition. Archive drawings of these models are illustrated by Paul Atterbury (Ed.), The Parian Phenomenon (1989), p.108, figs. 336 and 337. Two black and white photographs of figures of Bacchus and Ondine mounted on identical Majolica bases are illustrated on p.120, fig. 423 and 427.
