Footnotes

  • Provenance: The Strawbridge Collection. A similar vase mounted on a square pedestal is in the British Museum, illustrated by N.D. Gent, The Patterns and Shapes of the Pinxton China Factory (1996), fig 44, p 42. A similar pair, also with square pedestals, is painted with flowers and landscapes on a yellow ground and inscribed 'Billingsley Mansfield', see AE (Jimmy) Jones and Sir Leslie Joseph, Swansea Porcelain (1988), p 230 and C Barry Sheppard, Pinxton Porcelain (1996), colour plate 8. This important vase was certainly made at Pinxton but may have been decorated at Mansfield
