A Chelsea tureen and cover, circa 1758-60
The tureen of tapered and ribbed form, the sides with two open scroll handles, on four curved scroll feet, surmounted with an elaborate scroll finial picked out in gold, richly painted with Fancy Birds grazing and in flight amongst tropical flora and amongst scattered sprigs, the domed cover painted with alternating panels of grazing birds and bouquets of flowers, 35.8cm wide (base broken and restuck) (2)

The form of this tureen closely resembles a Vincennes shape, Terrine Saxe et Plateau of the same proportions, modelled by Jean-Claude Duplessis.
