A Chelsea crayfish salt, circa 1750-52
After a silver prototype by Nicholas Sprimont, the crustacean realistically modelled and coloured in brown, on a rockwork base encrusted with coloured shells, twigs of coral and green weed, the large open shell enamelled with further scattered patches of weed, 11cm wide, 7.4cm high (losses to rim of open shell and legs of crayfish, restoration to claws)
