A rare Birmingham enamel Jacobite snuff box, circa 1755-60
Of rectangular shape, the lid painted in a limited palette with a portrait of Charles Edward Stuart, within an oval flanked by military trophies and banners, the four sides of the box and the base painted with landscapes with ruins, 8.9cm wide (restored)

  • Provenance: The Mort and Moira Lesser Collection. The image on this box is after a portrait by Robert Strange. It is unusual to find a Jacobite portrait on the cover of an enamel box, for generally they were hidden on the inside of a double lid
