Two South Staffordshire enamel patch boxes, circa 1779 and 1810
Both oval, one with a coloured in print of Admiral Keppel within a scrollwork border, sprigs of flowers on the sides, 5.3cm wide, the other with a print of Fame with trumpet and banner inscribed 'Duncan Jervis Abercromby Nelson Howe', 5.4cm wide (both restored) (2)

Footnotes

  • Augustus Keppel, 1st Viscount Keppel (1725-1786) served with distinction during the Seven Years war and the American Wars. As a Whig he was in conflict with the Admiralty and was court martialled and acquitted in 1779. The print on this box derives from a medal issued for his acquittal
