Fish River Canyon, Namibia signed and dated 'Krige 91' (lower left) oil on canvas 58.5 x 71cm (23 1/16 x 27 15/16in). unframed
Krige insisted on spending as much time in Namibia as possible, where he camped in dry river beds and slept under the stars. Krige and his wife Sylvia struck inland on one excursion to the diamond-mining ghost town of Kolmanskop, the Fish River Canyon and north to Sossusvlei. He was fascinated by the breadth of the horizon and the country's sense of emptiness.
