Footnotes

  • Miss Nora Agnes Keane originally came from Castleconnell, Co. Limerick, Ireland. She and her brothers and sister emigrated to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Nora had returned home to Limerick for a four month visit to her mother. She had planned to return on an earlier vessel but then decided to travel on the R.M.S. Titanic back to America. Miss Keane was a 2nd class passenger and survivor on board R.M.S. Titanic. She embarked in Queenstown on Thursday 11th April 1912, Ticket No. 226593 (cost: £12 7s). She shared cabin E101 with Edwina Troutt and Susan Webber. Her destination was Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and she was rescued in lifeboat 10. She disembarked R.M.S. Carpathia in New York City on Thursday 18th April 1912. Nora eventually returned home to County Limerick and died on 21 December 1945, she was buried in the local graveyard in Castleconnell, County Limerick.

She gave this book to Robert B. Myers (known as Christ), a farmer and land owner in what is now Mechanicsburg, PA. He lent money to the brothers so they could go and pick-up Miss Keane after the R.M.S. Carpathia returned with the survivors. The book is signed by R. B. Myers and Robert K. Myers on the front end paper, and then inscribed to him To Christ/Bless you for your help and good wishes./We are so thankful to be home./Your friend/Hanora Keane
