PRIVATELY PRINTED FIRST-HAND NARRATIVE BY A SURVIVOR IN MEMORY OF HIS FATHER, LIMITED EDITION, INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. No 225 of 500 copies, signed on the limitation page and additionally inscribed and signed on the half-title presenting the book to Percy C. Madeira. The author was one of 28 passengers who went down with the ship but were saved by being in an overturned lifeboat. Thayer's mother also survived but John B. Thayer Sr. was killed. He wrote and privately published this account "primarily as a family record for the information of my children and perhaps their children."
