25 volumes. 8vo (214 x 134 mm). Over 100 hand-colored engraved plates, each with an additional engraving in uncolored state. Full tan calf by Zaehnsdorf, morocco spine labels, raised bands, spine compartments elaborately gilt, covers with triple gilt rule and morocco corner cameos with gilt fleurons, all edges gilt, calf doublures, marbled endpapers. Occasional slight rubbing, a fine set.
"Edition Magnifique," set 'D' of 26 lettered sets for England and America, with plate illustrations in both colored and uncolored states. Along with Dickens and Eliot, Reade was one of the great practitioners of the Victorian social novel.
