A General Map of Scotland and Islands thereto belonging from new surveys London: [1750]. Hand-colored engraved wall map of Scotland on 4 full sheets and two quarter sheets, joined, overall 70 x 58 inches. Inset table of places and inset map of the Shetland Islands. The map browned and mounted on paper and laid down on modern cloth, modern rollers, the borders close shaved and slightly restored at left and right margins, just affecting the graticule lines; together with a hand-colored engraved wall map of Scotland published by Laurie and Whittle in 1794, 48 x 43 inches, based on Dorret's 1750 map.(2)

Dorrets map of Scotland is rare at auction with just 4 examples in the last 35 years. James Dorret was the land surveyor for the Duke of Argyll, who at that time owned around 170,000 acres in Scotland.
