Ensigns's Travellers guide and Map of the United States, Containing the Roads, Distances, Steam Boat and Canal Routes. New York: 1845. Hand-colored lithographed wall map of the United States on 3 sheets, joined, overall 41 x 78 inches. The map extending from the eastern seaboard west to the Missouri Territory, Indian Territory and Texas, and set in a decorative leaf border, with inset vignette plans of 15 principal cities. With accompanying lower pictorial section with scenes of the Revolutionary War, and small portraits of the first 10 Presidents from Washington to Harrison. Mounted on its original cloth backing, and old ebonised wooden rollers, the varnish on the map browned, edges slightly frayed, a few small tears.
The expanded wall map version of Phelps and Ensign's pocket map published from the late 1830s. The lower decorative section was later incorporated into the body of the map in the Pictorial version published by Ensign and Thayer in 1847. This issue not in Rumsey.
