Calcite crystals and well-defined inner chambers are seen within a pair of display pieces produced by the slicing and polishing of a Perisphinctes specimen. Sliced and polished specimens of this type of ammonite are highly desired for use as accent pieces in interior decor--and ones of this size are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain in today's market. Ammonites were the dominant marine species for at least 185 million years.
