the reclining figure on a naturalistic base with a small spaniel beside him, later mounted on an ebonised plinth, the ivory 9cm high, overall 10.5cm high

  • This model is derived from Duquesnoy's L'insouciance du jeune age which is in the Musée de Cluny. Instead of a small dog the young boy reclines beside a skull, a reminder of the fragility of youth and the inevitable onset of old age and death.
