Footnotes

  • Simon Troger was a self trained sculptor who specialised in figurative groups of genre, allegorical and biblical scenes in a combination of stained wood, ivory and glass. Although originally working as a shepherd, he started his training under Schmiedecker and later joined the workshop of Andreas Faistenberger before setting up his own workshop. Here he enjoyed great success and was commissioned by numerous important patrons including Maximilian III.
