    LITERATURE:
    T. Girtin and D. Loshak, The art of Thomas Girtin, no. 134, ii; another version of this composition, very similar except for the omission of the dog in the foreground, is illustrated as plate 21 (op. cit, no 134, i).

    Girtin and Loshak note that Turner painted the same subject without the dog, and that both his watercolour and the present work were with Palser until around 1920.
