Lot Details
Jepara Pallasite Section
Pallasite, Nickel-Iron
Jepara, Indonesia

Jepara is an unique pallasite with the excellent clear olivine crystals expected of the finest pallasites, but with the iron-nickel matrix converted to magnetite after hundreds, if not thousands, of years of being buried underground after falling to Earth. A single, heavily weathered 499-kg meteorite of nearly spherical shape was found buried deeply underground when the foundation for a large building was being excavated at Jepara, Indonesia. This large section exhibits a brown matrix similar to that of a stony meteorite, filled with translucent clear olivine crystals.
Weighs 43.7 grams; measures 4 x 3.75in
