Campo del Cielo Meteorite
Iron-nickel Coarse octahedrite
Gran Chaco, Argentina
Campos of the highest quality, such as this splendid specimen, were recovered high in the mountains where their surfaces were not rusted away by ground water. The Campo del Cielo field has been explored extensively; therefore large, high quality specimens have become more difficult to locate. This impressive, large Campo del Cielo meteorite displays an aesthetic shape covered with various sized regmaglypts. Regmaglypts formed when the meteor passed through Earth's atmosphere and the troilite in the meteorite melted. In addition to its beautiful shape the specimen stands upright on its own, making for an impressive display. Weighs: 10,000 grams. (22.04 pounds) Measures 9 x 7 x 4in
