Rhinobatos on Fossilized Reef
Santana Formation, Brazil
This unique presentation is composed of a guitarfish, prepared free of matrix, mounted on a slab of reef displaying numerous marine fossils. Known as a guitarfish due to its distinctive shape, Rhinobatos caught its prey using a suction technique. Seen here on a section of fossilized reef, one can imagine the once-living creature skimming the ocean floor in search of sustenance.
