Aragonite Deposition in Pipe Cross Section
Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic
From the renowned spa town of Karlsbad, Czech Republic (Karlovy Vary) comes this cross-section of a large steel pipe with a 3 ½ inch deposit of aragonite in its interior. Probably formed over a period of at least 80 years, it is a result of mineral-rich waters coursing through the pipes on their way from the thermal source to the therapeutic baths of Karlsbad. Polished on one side, a variety of rich brown hues of the aragonite deposit are visible as is the natural edge of the deposition at the center. Diameter 14 ½
