Lot Details
Oval Petrified Wood Slab
Araucarioxylon arizonicum
Chinle Formation, Arizona

The process of decay in a 210-million-year-old tree has been captured in what amounts to a natural work of art. The structure of the original growth rings is seen as the cellulose was beginning to break down. The visually textural slab displays light and darker-toned rust, white, earth tones and some ochre. The process of petrifaction occurs underground when wood becomes buried under sediment and is initially preserved due to lack of oxygen. Polished to a high gloss; suitable for use as a tabletop.
