Yellow Cat Redwood
Yellow Cat Member, Grand County, Utah
Just north of Arches National Monument in Utah, lies a locality famous for a rare form of petrified wood which has become known as Yellow Cat Red Wood. Named for the saturated rust-red color of the carnelian which replaced the cellulose of the ancient living tree, this beautiful material is believed to originate from a species of conifer. Only a small number of collectors have been fortunate enough to own Yellow Cat Red Wood. Here is a fine specimen.
