Assassin Bug in Amber Cabochon

Within this finely polished cabochon is a superbly detailed assassin bug, an aptly named insect designed for voracious predation. The assassin bug's most famous victim, Charles Darwin, nearly died on his famous voyage aboard the HMS Beagle in Argentina, having contracted Chagas' disease from the poisonous protozoans within the insect. Clearly visible on the present specimen are the huge sucking beak, cruel eyes, hooked legs with hairs and wings. Specimens of this size and quality are very rare.
