DINNER AT LISBON
Menu of the The Royal British Club Lisbon for "A Dinner held in Honour of Sir Ernest Shackleton and members of the "Quest" Expedition on Saturday, October 8th, 1921, 4 pages, signed by Shackleton and 20 other members of the expedition for Mr. H. L. Berry; A pass in the hand of Frank Worsley allowing Mr. & Mrs. Berry, plus one on board Quest, on a quarto page of graph paper, photographs of Mr. & Mrs Berry attached, 5 September, 1921; WILD (FRANK) Shackleton's Last Voyage, coloured frontispiece, plates, small neat stamp of the Geographical Society of Chicago, publisher's decorated cloth, 8vo, Cassell, 1923; Typed copy of Leonard Hussey's irreverent adaption of Kipling's "If" to the circumstances of those on board "Quest", with a alternative first verse and other minor changes to the version printed by Wild in his account, one page, 4to; together with a contemporary postcard portrait of Shackleton by Beresford and 4 modern volumes about Shackleton (small quantity)

  • Berry worked for Rawes & Co in Lisbon (also acting as agent for Royal Mail Lines), and happened to be in London before Quest left. He met up with her again in Lisbon where Rawes & Co. carried out some repairs. The menu contains all the signatures of the expedition members (excepting Stoker Ross), before the loss of Bee Mason and Mooney (one of the two boy scouts), who were sent home by Shackleton after arrival in Madeira, or the further losses at Cape Verde and Rio.
