Footnotes
The programme for Ponting's lecture given at the Philharmonic Hall, Great Portland Street, most probably in 1914. The lecture was set around Ponting's footage of Scott's expedition. A notice below the synopsis of the film states "Mr. Ponting has granted rights for the publication of his Antarctic films to the Gaumont Co., Ltd., who have, by arrangement with him, suspended all releases during the period of his lecture tour." Ponting was to later buy the rights from Gaumont, and the footage re-fashioned into the celebrated The Great White Silence.
This copy preserves several loose printed flyers: reprint of review of the lecture by Filson Young in the Pall Mall Gazette; handbill advertising the lecture; advertisement for the photographs available from the Fine Art Society.
