"Commander Evans Observing and Occulation of Jupiter", carbon print, later oak frame, [c.1911]

  • "A flashlight study at night of Commander Evans making observations with the Astronomical Telescope. This was exceedingly toilsome, as it necessitated the observer sitting still at the instrument, in low temperatures, for long periods. The telephone which he has to his ear is connected to the interior of the hut, and when the observer gave the word, the moment of "Contact" was noted by his confrère, Dr. Simpson, in the hut, to the tenth part of a second". No. 62 Fine Art Society Exhibition catalogue.
