Pewter kitchen baluster pepper pot from the Terra Nova, by Walker and Hall, with pierced spherical top on a balustre base, engraved on front with the expedition emblem 'British Antarctic Expedition Terra Nova R.Y.S.' within a band surrounding a penguin on the Pole, stamped on underside of base with 'W&H' trademark pennant, overall height 114mm; with a large cabinet card portrait of Edward Archibald Mcknezie taken at the time of the expedition (2)

Edward Archibald McKenzie R.N. was Leading Stoker on the Terra Nova and qualified for the Antarctic Medal. He went on to serve as a policeman for 25 years, a period interrupted only by the First World War when he served briefly in the Grenadier Guards before transferring to the Navy. He was also a very skilled model maker, and produced the scale model of the Terra Nova which has been on display at the Natural History Museum.
