Pewter kitchen baluster pepper pot from the Terra Nova, by Walker and Hall, with pierced spherical top on a balustre base, engraved on front with the expedition emblem 'British Antarctic Expedition Terra Nova R.Y.S.' within a band surrounding a penguin on the Pole, stamped on underside of base with 'W&H' trademark pennant, overall height 114mm; with a large cabinet card portrait of Edward Archibald Mcknezie taken at the time of the expedition (2)

Footnotes

  • Edward Archibald McKenzie R.N. was Leading Stoker on the Terra Nova and qualified for the Antarctic Medal. He went on to serve as a policeman for 25 years, a period interrupted only by the First World War when he served briefly in the Grenadier Guards before transferring to the Navy. He was also a very skilled model maker, and produced the scale model of the Terra Nova which has been on display at the Natural History Museum.
