BOWERS (HENRY ROBERTSON, 'Birdie')
Naval officer's sword, fullered blade etched with foliate decoration, crowned anchor and royal arms, regulation gilt-brass hilt bearing King's crown and anchor, wire-bound fish-skin covered grip and gold-and-blue cord sword-knot, with its black leather scabbard with gilt-brass mounts, and chamois-leather cover stamped "H.R. Bowers"

  • 'Birdie' Bowers' naval sword dating from his service in the Royal Indian Marine, in very good condition. Bowers had risen to the rank of Lieutenant by 1909 and during this time he posed for a studio photograph wearing tropical dress uniform, leaning on the present sword; a reproduction of this portrait is included in the lot.
