A black lacquer yatate
By Tokei, late 19th/early 20th century
Made in two parts, each bearing a roiro ground, the ink container lacquered and inlaid with a small bird beside a budding magnolia tree, the brush holder similarly decorated with caterpillars on leaves, details inlaid with raden, signed Tokei (after) Seiga Toiku with seal Toiku.
The brush holder 19.3cm (7 5/8in).
