A gold lacquer and inlaid-metal four-case inro

Of lenticular form, bearing a rich kinji ground and inlaid with Musashibo Benkei and Minamoto no Yoshitsune engaged in their famous fight on the Gojo bridge in Kyoto, in gold, silver, shakudo and shibuichi takazogan, the background of gold takamakie and togidashi, the interior of nashiji, signed for the lacquer Koryusai and for the metalwork Katsuhiro with kao; with a metal ojime, engraved and inlaid with a peony, unsigned.

    The metalworker is probably Yoshida (later Takata) Katsuhiro, a pupil of Yoshida Nobukatsu, who worked in Tokyo during the last part of the 19th century.
